The name was earned during Hurricane Helene, when Jon’s Special Missions Unit teammates gave him the callsign Birdman. As a former U.S. Air Force Combat Controller, pilot, and bird photographer, Jon became the operator responsible for everything air-related — mobilizing hundreds of civilian pilots after a viral call-to-action that exposed the lack of government response in Western North Carolina, coordinating aerial movements, and keeping rescue missions alive from above.
That single call reached over 80 million people, igniting one of the largest civilian-led aviation relief efforts in recent history. What started as one man refusing to stay silent became a mission powered by ordinary people choosing to act.
